A vegetarian thali in Mulund – at the Rajdhani

July 14, 2007

We enjoy thalis once in a while, but not too often as the quantity is usually too much for us. However, we decided to try out this restaurant called Rajdhani at Mulund’s Nirmal Lifestyle (mall). We went on a Sunday and found a lot of people waiting…we had arrived there at around 12:30 p.m, but were told that we would have to wait for at least 15-20 minutes. Well, we were happy looking at the crowd …it meant that the restaurant was good.
In about 15 minutes were ushered into the packed restaurant. It was small, with a simple decor. Basically, an eating joint without the frills.

On the menu was a Gujarati thali. We already knew what was going to be served as the list of dishes had been put up outside. Kadhi, dal, 3-4 different kinds of sabjis, chopped salad, aam-ras, a sweet dish (Malpoa), papad, lassi etc. The aam-ras (it was tinned I think) was really nice…and it was unlimited as was the rest of the food. The kadhi was on the sweeter side, but we didn’t expect anything else as we were eating a Gujju thali.

The service was prompt, the waiters attentive and our thalis arrived within five minutes. All the dishes were tasty and we enjoyed our sumptuous meal. It wasn’t gourmet stuff, but it was worth the money…Rs 150/- or Rs 180/- per thali . The price varies during the week-end because they serve more dishes.

What I liked was that the place was clean, the service good and the lady at the counter polite. It was a value for money meal and if you are ravenously hungry, go for it!

The food is just alright , I mean the menu is limited and I ended up having food on a Sunday it costed me a whopping 225Rs. And I didnt get much for that price, the sabzi were palak paneer, aloo flower and brinjal (yucks) I mean who would want to eat this kind of a menu unlimited . For that much money I better get good value. I bet even gujjus wouldnt visit this joint frequently.
