Summary Posts of the past week

Shaurya – Movie Review What I liked was the treatment. It was simple and clean, with no frills and no fuss. The scenes were natural and realistic, and so was the acting. The movie was set in the countryside, a nice change from the city-centred movies that we usually see. No glamour, no disco lights and no cabarets…The story has been given an Indian twist. It’s been turned into a Hindu Muslim issue. Well, if it was credible it would have been a different matter. But it isn’t.

Tibet’s Olympian opportunity China has played into Tibet’s hands by hosting the Olympics. The Tibetan cause has never got as much attention from the world as it has now. What surprises me is that the politically savvy China did not anticipate it. What about China’s Intelligence agencies? Could they not have sniffed out what was in the air? The Tibetans must have been planning this for months…Perhaps China fell victim to its own propaganda. News about Tibet and the dissidence and hatred of the Chinese government in Tibet…

Don’t buy without checking the weight The packet of Britannia Marie that I bought last week seemed shrunken. When I checked the weight I found that the quantity had been reduced…It’s not just biscuits, but many other products, ranging from instant noodles and soaps to tea and detergents which have reduced pack quantities…Also stories of petrol pumps cheating consumers by giving them less petrol are rife, and it is recommended that one should buy…

The politics of the Thackerays and Amitabh Bachchan The sparring between the Thackerays (local political leaders of Maharashtra ) and film star Amitabh Bachchan would have been amusing if it hadn’t been so serious. It all started a few months ago in February when Raj Thackeray of MNS (break-away group of the Shiv Sena) ridiculed Bachchan for being a “brand ambassador”for Uttar Pradesh… Well, wanting to do something for ones own country, state, town, village or whatever is natural…

Ageing is not a disease! I have always believed that the Beauty Care Industry is a fraud, more so treatments which promise to make one look younger. Sure, it’s great to try and look young and healthy but why risk long term health?…let’s not forget that Botox has been in use in use for less than two decades and no one knows exactly what the long-term effects of Botox are…here is a video from Utube which is the perfect ending to this piece. The message is: Talk to your daughter before the beauty industry does.

Life in Pondicherry – a photo essay The atmosphere of a place is best captured on its streets and that is why I decided to publish some photographs of ordinary street scenes. They are about people really…I love to photograph people the most. People absorbed in their normal everyday activities…
