Shocking Fake Encounter

May 2, 2007

This fake encounter case is quite horrifying. That Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kausar Bi were killed is a terrible indictment of what can happen in a country that is rife with terrorist and underworld activities. It has led the criminals in the police force to wave around human trophies to get promotions and pats on the back. Sheikh may have been killed in an ‘encounter’ because he was a terrorist or a gangster, but the reality is that there was no encounter. And his wife must have been innocent! The man was picked up and killed in cold blood. If human lives are sacrificed, what does it matter to these cops? The fact that this happens shows a state government machine that turns a blind eye to blatant and horrific crime. Whats even more shocking is that these cops have supporters who have turned up in court!

Whats happened in Gujarat is probably not shocking to those who are aware that these things keep happening, but every word that I read unnerved me. We can only thank our stars that this has come to light and the DIG allegedly involved (D G Vanzara) alongwith Rajkumar Pandyan (Gujarat Police) and Dinesh Kumar (Rajasthan Police) have all been arrested.

Today, I read another shocking news report – it alleges that Kausar Bi was killed because she made a fuss after being raped. After her husband was taken away she was imprisoned in a farmhouse where she was raped by the man guarding her. And when the police officers found out what had happened, all they did was slap the guard! And when she said she was going to complain, they decided to kill her!

Various political parties are attacking the Gujarat government, and it has now become a viral political issue.

Forget politics. Just quickly bring those criminal cops to trial and hand out the severest punishment. If found guilty, these cops should go to the gallows. There is nothing as henious as official crime. That’s what is most disgusting and immoral about it all, that policemen are involved.

Update, 3rd May: Naturally, the police are denying the rape. They say that they were not going to kill the woman but did so because she threatened to complain about her husband’s death! It beats me as to how the police thought she was not going to complain about her husband’s death. Clearly they knew she would, but probably had fudged paperwork to show that her husband was indeed a terrorist. They would have found it more difficult to counter the rape allegations.

4th May: NDTV has reported that the investigating officer in the case has been shunted out because he wanted to conduct a narco-analysis test of the policemen whom he felt were lying. This created such an uproar that the man was transferred.

8th May: More dirt has been dug up on the tainted cop, Vanzara. Apparently he has killed others too. Also, there are allegations that Sheikh was involved in some underworld activity, exhorting money from builders, and these builders asked the cops to finish off Sheikh and allegedly Vanzara was paid for the job. After finding this out I have made certain changes to the main post as well.

24th July 2010: The person linked to the murder of Sohrabudin and his wife Kauserbi has been found. His name is Amit Shah and he is a minister in the Gujarat state government. These are allegations but the SIT probe has found evidence linking this minister to the crime.

This is shocking, very very shocking but this is not the first time it has happened. The only difference is these acts are being brought to light by an active media.

This is no doubt condemnable. But few things
    1. Such encounters are common but the difference is that Sheikh wasn’t a big criminal who should have been killed like that.
    2. The rape and killing of his wife is atrocious. May be they are racists!! wow that’s an interesting adjective to use in India.

Sharique , there is a difference between religion and race. indian muslims are not really “arabs” …

converted hindus who are now holier than thou? i think shariek must ponder on this valid point you have raised regarding religion and race. nevertheless there might be many muslims in india who are the direct descendants of iranians/arabs/afghans etc who, for various reasons, travelled to india and settled here. but it is a point of debate how much of the ‘original’ still exists in their much diluted and cross fertilised indian blood.

The most famous was the Lokhandwala shootout where Inspector Aftab Ahmed Khan killed Maya and Buwa (both hindus) after they quit Dawood’s gang and became part of hindu gangs. Dawood allegedly tipped Khan about their whereabouts and Khan killed them. true story.

Why are people turning Sohrabuddin Sheik into some kind of a hero? This guy was a gangster and did an extortion attempt on a well connected who just blew him away through the well used method of encounter killing. The guy deserved it but not his wife.

This guy may be a criminal, may be he deserve a jail term. But the minister Amit Sha and the rajashan marlble lobby who payed are even bigger criminals.

Why make a big deal out of this particular encounter.

    1) If you look at statistics, Gujarat has far fewer #s of encounters compared to some of the other states like UP and Bihar.
    2) The amount of interest shown by media, CBI and Central govt confirms the consipiracy against Hindus.
    3) There is a lesson to be learned from Parsi community – see how they merge within Hindu community, see their contribution to India, it’s absolutely unparallel.
    4) Unfortunately muslim history has always remain very bloody and the impression cannot be washed away, unless secular muslims proactively address the key issues behind Hindu’s feeling insecure.
